prayer practice
As a spiritual practice or tradition there is a great deal to choose from in the world of Prayers.
There are so many forms of Prayer and in so many traditions. These are often performed in combination with Religious or Spiritual Ritual.
-
passionate prayer
So many activities can become our prayers, become prayer full. Prayer is many things; an action, a practice, a spiritual connection, a way of life, an attitude, a method and a means, a goal and the journey. We can be prayerful, we can be filled with prayer, we can be the prayer, we can be in prayer.
-
mantra
This form of prayer exists in many spiritual traditions. The Yogic, the Tibetan and Buddhist traditions are known for Mantra Meditation as a prayer form.
OM is the shortest, primordial and perhaps most famous Mantra.
-
chanting
The form of chanting Mantras but also chanting of other prayers can be found in many spiritual traditions all over the world. Gregorian chants, Moslem chants and Theravada Buddhist chants are three such examples.
-

Found in many spiritual traditions all over the world, prayer songs are sung and chanted by peoples in all Continents of this world and in so many languages.
-
recitations and beads
Many prayer traditions work with prayer beads and recitations. This can be found within Eastern and Western spiritual traditions. Two examples are the Rosary Recitation Prayers and Yogic and Buddhist Mantra with Mala Recitation Prayers.
-
prayer ceremonies
Many spiritual traditions combine praying with rituals and ceremonies. For special occasions, high holidays, in holy places where a community gathers for religious or spiritual purposes. Examples of this can be found in all the major world religions and all the spiritual traditions of our world.
-
languages of prayer
There are prayers in the languages of the spiritual traditions of the world. Sometimes the prayers are in the main languages such as English, Hebraic or Arabic but also in Native Languages of Tribes and Cultures with their own prayer traditions. But there are also prayers in Latin, Pali, Sanskrit, Aramaic, and the Languages of Light.
-
with yantra
Prayers, for example in the Yogic prayer paths, can also be done in combination with Yantra. These sacred geometric forms depicted in 2D images or visualised as 3D images, can be objects of meditation by themselves or in combination with Mantra.

listen
A simple way to bring Mantra Meditation into your life is to listen to Mantra recitation and songs. There are so many beautiful mantra recordings out there. Search for the type of sound of mantras that appeal to you and the frequency in the song. Play it while you meditate or relax, or while you cook or work. Have it on in the background of your life and see how it makes you feel. Observe what changes in you. This will guide you in what the mantra does for you and you can listen to it accordingly.
-
recite silently
When you have found a Mantra that you like the sound of, listen to those who can pronounce it correctly and learn how to say it. Or study it with a Mantra Meditation teacher. Then internally repeat it in meditation, sitting, lying down or walking or even during cleaning or other activities if suitable or as your instructor recommends. Observe what changes in you as a result of the recitation. Sometimes we need different Mantras for different occasions and phases in life.
-
recite out aloud
Having chosen and learnt the sound of a Mantra you can say it out aloud in your practice moments. This powerful way of practicing Mantra can amplify the energy of it even when done alone. It also brings active Throat Chakra Healing into the moments of prayer. A teacher may be helpful in ensuring correct practice if you are unsure how to go about it. There is a lot of help on this to be found online today as well as in yoga studios, spiritual centres etc...
